Jennie Fletcher

Landscapes are all around us.

We walk on and through them, we see and touch them. They are continually affected and shaped by the elements: earth, air, water, and fire; and time, the fifth element, suggests a sense of myth and mystery, feasting our imagination for story-telling. Over the centuries what lies beneath our feet has been collected, reconstituted, processed, shaped, utilised, and I am intrigued by what is hidden and then, by various means, revealed. This links very well with my painting practice. The process of building up many layers of paint, scraping back, adding more layers, and scraping back more continues, revealing a wealth of hidden colours and textures that will inform the final compositions for whatever series I’m working on.
